Meditation Pavilion

Boulder, Colorado
Completed in 2006

The Meditation Pavilion & Pool House, north of Boulder, embraces the notion of stylish indoor-outdoor living while not abandoning ecological consciousness. The extensive solar array, green roof, and careful siting all help mitigate the environmental footprint of the pavilion. The sumptuous, but calming interior was carefully specified to include many sustainable materials as well, with conscious space planning and the integration of multi-purpose spaces leading to a compact area with a spacious feel.

A Key Design Issue was including all of the clients’ desired uses (kitchen, dining, lounging, office, changing/bath, meditation, and sleeping), while maintaining a small footprint. Solutions included a wall-stored Murphy bed and Nana-wall which allow a flexible space to function as both a private sleeping area and an expansive realm for group meditation, and generous curtained sleeping alcoves that serve for lounging and double as berths for extra overnight guests.
