Children’s Museum
Boulder, Colorado
The Civic Use Building acts as a children’s museum and community dance facility at a site shared by a new hotel and an underground parking garage in Boulder, CO. This structure would be a playful, yet educational experience. With the goal of engaging children & teens in environmental issues, the building design expresses the natural elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Solar energy powers exhibits (Fire), air naturally ventilates (Air), a watershed roof celebrates the preciousness of water through a collection & display fountain (Water), and reclaimed local sandstone forms the building base (Earth).
The building is an experimental space with deep ties to the community, and is an exercise in creating an educational space with a heart of whimsy. For the time being, this project will remain a vision as ownership & operation issues have put the project on indefinite hold.
