Cliffside Cabin

Masonville, CO

This couple’s home nestles into a ridge with dramatic drops on three sides to deep, rocky canyons. With the quiet beauty of the landscape as inspiration, the shed roofline mirrors jutting rock formations that are passed when approaching the home. Deep overhangs shelter a garden between the home and the garage, providing a small lush oasis in a relatively arid landscape. An understated gray roof and reclaimed weathered snowfence siding blend with the cliff rocks, allowing the home to appear as an extension of the landscape.

“We can never have enough of nature. We must be refreshed by the sight of inexhaustible vigor, vast and titanic features, the sea-coast…the wilderness with its living and its decaying trees, the thunder-cloud, and the rain.”
