High Altitude Haven
Nederland, Colorado
After two years of exploring the U.S. in their RV, this fine couple dropped in to say “Colorado is our new home!” On a beautifully wooded site north of Nederland, this sustainable mountain modern home blends effortlessly into the site. The 2,600 square foot family nest favors quality of design over quantity of space.
The design insinuates into the ponderosa woodlands to capture sun, views and a sense of being part of a mature high country forest (8,600′ elevation.) Large sliding glass window panels encourage inside-outside flow, while inviting in the distinct ponderosa aroma that is such a sensory delight.
Fire resistant materials of corrugated steel and stone acknowledge ever present realities of Colorado mountain life in a changing climate.
The open plan celebrates family life together around food, conversation, hearth and entertainment. Equally important, the private work and getaway spaces allow for a balanced ease of living. Happy people, happy home.
