Sound Sanctuary

Boulder, Colorado

Custom homes offer an opportunity to delve deeply into an individual’s passions and unique gifts. The Sound Sanctuary is such an exploration, as it finds form from a flautist who thinks and experiences space from a highly attuned aural sensibility. She speaks of such an ability as “hearing a space.” This acoustic predilection is coupled with an almost equal drive to engage at all times with the spectacular unobstructed views west to the Continental Divide.

The Sound Sanctuary anticipates performance, practice and informal gathering around music. The central living hall balances and shapes sound through geometry, space, and materiality.

The juxtaposition of hard and soft reflective and absorptive attune to the artist’s ear while the see-through architecture keeps her in visual contact with the changing light of the Boulder Foothills.
