This home design is strongly influenced by the Owners’ deep environmental values and a site that looks over the city of Manhattan, Kansas in the Flint Hills. The time tested approach in tornado country of earth integration led to placing the home in the sloping hillside meadow and literally extending the meadow over the roof in the form of sod. The use of high insulation, thermal mass, and high performance windows are all aspects of passive design. The material palette includes recycled snow fence siding, stucco, and local limestone.
