After 20 years as Barrett Studio's office, the decision to evolve the building into two side-by-side residences was inspired by my family's recent trips to Morocco and southern Spain.

This winter, David offered me a bonus trip to his off-the-grid palapa on the Pacific Ocean in Mexico with one string attached. In between snorkeling, fishing, laying in the sun, and drinking tequila, my task was to upgrade the palapa lighting “system,” if you could call it that. My appropriate technology instincts kicked in immediately.

Faded Dreams at Arcosanti

Recently, I set off on a southwest road trip, and in later posts you'll read about my impressions of Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam Bypass. Here though, I'd like to share some photos I took of Arcosanti - that fabled gem in the dusty desert north of Scottsdale, Arizona.
